Northern Circuit Route

Kilimanjaro Climbing – Northern Circuit Route 9 Days

The 9-Day Northern Circuit Route is the longest itinerary in your Kilimanjaro climbing collection and provides an extended journey around the northern slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro before reaching the summit.

The route is designed around a gradual progression through the mountain's different ecological and high-altitude zones. Rather than taking the most direct approach toward the summit, the Northern Circuit travels around the northern side of Kibo before eventually joining the summit approach.

Its longer itinerary provides additional days on the mountain and more time for gradual acclimatization.

The route also offers a different perspective of Kilimanjaro, including quieter northern sections and extensive views across the surrounding landscape.

THE ROUTE

About the Northern Circuit Route

The Northern Circuit begins from the western side of Kilimanjaro before gradually traversing toward the northern slopes.

The early stages pass through the rainforest and higher moorland before the route moves into the more open alpine environment.

After reaching the northern side of the mountain, the trail continues around Kibo before connecting with the eastern and southern sections used for the final summit approach.

This creates a distinctive circuit-style experience, with a substantial portion of the climb spent exploring the northern side of Kilimanjaro.

After reaching Uhuru Peak, the descent follows the southern side of the mountain toward Mweka Gate.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Before You Climb

The Northern Circuit is the longest itinerary in your Kilimanjaro catalogue.

Its 9-day structure makes it particularly suitable for travelers who want to spend more time on the mountain and experience a broader section of Kilimanjaro rather than taking a direct route toward the summit.

The route is still a high-altitude expedition and should not be considered easy simply because the itinerary is longer.

Good physical preparation, appropriate equipment, sensible pacing and professional mountain guidance are essential.
