Lemosho Route

Kilimanjaro Climbing – Lemosho Route 8 Days

The 8-Day Lemosho Route is a longer Kilimanjaro climbing itinerary designed around a gradual approach to the summit. The route begins on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro and crosses a variety of mountain environments before joining the higher southern circuit toward Uhuru Peak.

With eight days on the mountain, this itinerary allows the climb to progress at a more measured pace than shorter Kilimanjaro programs. Climbers spend additional time gaining elevation before the summit attempt, while the route provides changing scenery from the lower forest through the alpine zones and into the high-altitude summit environment.

The Lemosho Route is a camping trek and requires a good level of physical preparation. Summit day is particularly demanding because of the altitude, cold temperatures and long hiking hours.

THE ROUTE

About the Lemosho Route

The Lemosho Route begins in the western part of Kilimanjaro and initially passes through montane forest before reaching the Shira Plateau.

From the Shira area, the trek continues across the mountain's southern slopes, passing through high-altitude landscapes and progressively gaining elevation. The route eventually reaches the Barafu area, from where climbers prepare for the summit attempt.

The final ascent begins during the night or early morning and continues toward Stella Point before reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro. After reaching the summit, the descent continues toward the lower mountain.

The eight-day schedule provides a longer mountain experience and more time for the body to adapt to increasing elevation.
